Here's the back story... This mantis was attacked by a robin... I yelled at the bird, and it dropped the bug. At first I was very angry, because I love these animals; they're absolutely gorgeous... Good thing it was still alive. Alive, but PISSED. I didn't want to grab it with my hands, because that is a very mean looking threat display. So I grab a stick, and fought for ten minutes to get him on, and finally to another, hopefully safer tree.

I do love them, and my Dad and I seem to attract mantises... I also saved a tiny, BRIGHT blueish-green one from being cooked in my brother's car a few years ago.

That kinda blows, since they are the most majestic of bugs... I've seen all sorts of weird color morphs of mantises. I'm guessing it depends on where they like to hunt, considering this one got pulled from a huge pine tree, it (most likely she) was mostly Greyish brown
